A gym in The Beaches, not a gym in Toronto

We are at 2461 Queen Street East, between Kew Gardens and the Woodbine end of the strip. More than half our members live within walking distance, which changes how the place runs: people come before work, after school drop-off, or on the way back from the boardwalk.

The brief

Who this is for

This page is for people who live here. If you have walked past the window on Queen and wondered what goes on inside, that is the usual way people find us, and it has been for thirteen years.

The Beaches is full of people who are already active. Runners on the boardwalk, cyclists on Woodbine, people in Kew Gardens with a dog and a plan. What tends to be missing is strength, and that is the part that gets harder to add on your own after forty.

You live between Woodbine and Victoria Park and want somewhere you can walk to.
You already run or cycle here, and know that is not the same as being strong.
You would rather train somewhere you might see a neighbour than somewhere anonymous.

How it runs

What training here actually looks like

Sessions run from 5am, because a lot of the neighbourhood is on the streetcar by seven. Up to six people on the floor, every one on a different program, with a coach who knows all six names.

Early starts, because Queen Street East gets busy and people have jobs downtown.
Your own program, written for you, rewritten as you progress.
A street-level room with windows, not a basement unit off a plaza.
Afterwards

Why the neighbourhood matters

Training close to home is the single most reliable predictor of whether somebody keeps going. Not motivation, not the equipment, not the price. The distance. That is why we have never opened a second location and why almost everybody here is local.

Not only have I seen amazing physical results - I am stronger and leaner, but my energy levels have also soared. The supportive community here makes every workout fun, and I genuinely look forward to coming in.

As someone who has never consistently exercised, been very intimidated and not confident about going to a gym her whole life... I haven't missed a single week.

During my first workout at Thrive, I lost my balance and fell. Rather than embarrassment, the three other people there shared they had all fallen at the beginning.

I'm a 65 year old woman who, for the last 10 years or so, was exercising mainly by walking... Brian, Stephanie and Luis are amazing. They know their stuff inside out.

Where exactly are you on Queen Street East?

2461 Queen Street East, at street level, on the stretch between Kew Gardens and Victoria Park. If you are walking east from the Beaches Library you will pass us. There is green P parking nearby and the 501 stops outside.

Is there parking, or should I walk?

Most members walk, which is rather the point. If you drive, there is street parking on Queen and the side streets north of it, and it is easier before 8am than at 6pm. Nobody has ever missed a session over parking.

I run on the boardwalk already. Do I need this?

Running builds one thing well and leaves another alone. If you have been running for years and still feel weaker than you did at thirty-five, that is not the running failing, it is what running does not cover. Strength is the missing half.

Do you get a lot of people from outside The Beaches?

Some, mostly from the Leslieville edge and the Upper Beach. But more than half our members live within walking distance, and that is deliberate. Distance is the thing that quietly ends memberships.

What are the hours?

Monday to Thursday 5am to 8pm, Friday 5am to 1pm, Saturday 7am to 1pm. Closed Sunday. The early slots go first because a lot of the neighbourhood commutes.

How do I start?

A private Body Reset Baseline. Thirty minutes, one to one, at the studio. There is no charge and nothing to buy at the end of it.
